I've been under heavy debate about which way to go with my work. I keep hearing "cycles, cycles, cycles!" in the community, but I'm not going for photorealism in my comic/manga work. Freestyle would be very nice to use, which isn't supported in cycles. 

Your work seems to be getting great results with the blender internal. Lighting was one thing I was concerned about the blender internal lacking, but your results seem to be great with it. How'd the compositing work in this? Effects similar to your glows on the bands are what I need for a lot of my tech in the series. 

And thanks for allowing download of the blend file! That is really appreciated to analyze the build for your results!

Yeah, many Blender users, especially the inexperienced ones flat out say Cycles is the better option. In my opinion is if you can do it in Cycles, you can do it in Blender Internal as well and vice versa. Cycles is simpler to set up, but Internal allows better artistic control and usually renders faster and for cartoony/comic/manga results Internal is clearly the better option.

Freestyle can be used in both renderers, but it's not integrated into Cycles so would need additional compositing that slows down your production. Compositing itself however shouldn't be an issue since all renderers use the same compositor so you're able to achieve the effect anyway. Unless you're referring to the actual blue fire on the bands, because this is Internal only.

In terms of Lighting, Cycles has Global Illumination integrated, so the results will be more realistic and some case better looking with no additional setup required. Otherwise the possibilities are about the same.
